Rebate Program for ENERGY STAR Manufactured Homes
Sierra Pacific Power Company's Service Area

The Manufactured Housing Research Alliance (MHRA) will pay retailers and community owners a $500 rebate for each new ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured home they sell to customers of Sierra Pacific Power Company. In addition to the $500 retailer rebate for ENERGY STAR construction, MHRA will pay a $250 incentive to the equipment supplier to buy down the cost of a heat pump, a requirement for electrically-heated homes.

Sierra Pacific Power is sponsoring the rebate program to increase sales of ENERGY STAR homes within their service territory. The program is a win-win for all involved, with the manufacturer qualifying for the federal tax credit, the homebuyer purchasing a more comfortable and efficient home that will help lower their monthly energy bills, and now the rebate for home retailers and community owners and HVAC distributors.

For many utilities, improved efficiency can be a cost-effective strategy for reducing electric demand and system peaks, factors that reduce the need to build additional generating capacity. Underwriting a portion of the costs of ENERGY STAR construction through a rebate program is a good fit with their overall efficiency portfolio and reaches a segment of their customer base that has been difficult to reach in the past.

To help retailers and community owners sell new ENERGY STAR homes in Sierra Pacific Power Company's service area, MHRA will provide at no cost marketing materials, including a sales video DVD, posters, brochures and window decals. To obtain these materials, simply fax or email a completed Marketing Materials Request Form to MHRA.

Retailers and community owners should contact their manufacturer representatives for information about their ENERGY STAR options. If you have any questions, contact Gwynne Koch, MHRA ENERGY STAR Program Coordinator, at 212-496-0900 ext. 12 or gkoch@research-alliance.org.

Steps to Collecting the Rebate

Step 1. Verify the Power Provider

Verify that the homebuyer is a customer of Sierra Pacific Power Company. Ask the homebuyer first. If they're not sure, call Gwynne Koch at MHRA at (212) 496-0900 x12 or gkoch@research-alliance.org. Be sure to have the home's address on hand.

Step 2. Order the Home

Contact an ENERGY STAR qualified manufacturer about availability and pricing of ENERGY STAR homes. When ordering, be sure to request a home that meets the Energy Star requirements. See the list of Participating Home Manufacturers below.
Step 3. Step 3 Select appropriate heating/cooling equipment

Homes with electric heat must be equipped with a heat pump. Follow the home manufacturer's sizing recommendation or select the correct size from the Sizing Guidelines chart below.

Step 4. Verify the ENERGY STAR Installation Items
After the home is installed, use the Site Installation Checklist (provided by the home manufacturer with each home) to verify completion of the ENERGY STAR installation items. Sign the Checklist and the MHRA Quality Assurance (gray) label that is affixed to the home. Mail or fax the completed Checklist to the home manufacturer. If this step is completed by the home manufacturer, request of copy of the Site Installation Checklist from the manufacturer. Please contact your manufacturer representative for more information about their Site Installation Checklist.

Step 5. Apply for the Rebate
Fill out a Rebate Application. Attach a copy of the completed Site Installation Checklist and a copy of the cooling equipment invoice or purchase order for each home included on the application. Mail or fax the application and all required documentation to:

  • Selling ENERGY STAR Manufactured Homes

Marketing is telling your story, and ENERGY STAR is a great story—better performing homes that cost less to own. Unless you tell your story, you give it away. Cooling Equipment Sizing Guidelines for ENERGY STAR Manufactured Homes in Sierra Pacific Power Company's Service Area

ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured homes typically require less cooling capacity because their high insulation levels and tight construction slow the transfer of heat from outside into the home, and their tight air distribution systems minimize the loss of conditioned air from the ducts.

Find the region on the map below where the home will be placed and determine the corresponding sizing region letter. Find the row corresponding to the region letter on the table below. To find the required cooling equipment capacity in tons for a heat pump or air conditioner, read across that row to the column that corresponds to the home's conditioned floor area. The value represents the appropriate cooling equipment size (in tons of cooling capacity) for ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured homes.
