Rebate Program for ENERGY STAR Manufactured Homes
Tennessee Valley Authority's Service Area

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is sponsoring a rebate program to increase sales of ENERGY STAR manufactured homes within their seven-state service area. The Manufactured Housing Research Alliance (MHRA) will pay retailers and community owners a $400 rebate for each new electrically-heated ENERGY STAR manufactured home they sell to customers of one of TVA's 158 municipal and cooperative power distributors.

The $400 retailer rebate for ENERGY STAR is in addition to the $300 incentive TVA provides to the equipment supplier to buy down the cost of a heat pump under the energy right program. Heat pumps are a main component of ENERGY STAR construction for electrically-heated homes.

Coupled with TVA's energy right heat pump program, ENERGY STAR is a win-win for all involved, with the manufacturer qualifying for the federal tax credit, the homebuyer purchasing a more comfortable and efficient home that will help lower their monthly energy bills, the incentive for HVAC distributors, and now the rebate for home retailers and communities.

To help retailers and community owners sell new ENERGY STAR homes in TVA's service area, MHRA will provide at no cost marketing materials, including a sales video DVD, posters, brochures and window decals. To obtain these materials, simply fax or email a completed Marketing Materials Request Form to MHRA.

Retailers and community owners should contact their manufacturer representatives for information about their ENERGY STAR options. If you have questions, contact Gwynne Koch, MHRA ENERGY STAR Manufactured Homes Program Coordinator, at 212-496-0900 ext.12 or gkoch@research-alliance.org.

Steps to Collecting the Rebate

Step 1. Verify the Power Provider

Verify that the homebuyer is an electric service customer of one of TVA's power distributors. Ask the homebuyer and check the list of TVA's Power Distributors.

Step 2. Order the Home

Contact an ENERGY STAR qualified manufacturer about availability and pricing of ENERGY STAR homes. See the List of ENERGY STAR Plants.
Step 3. Order and Install a Heat Pump

Homes must have a heat pump installed to qualify for the rebate. In most cases, you will receive a discount on the heat pump from your HVAC supplier because TVA provides them with a separate $300 incentive under the energy right Heat Pump program. (For more information on this program, call Terry McIntosh at 423-876-4167).
Step 4. Verify the ENERGY STAR Installation Items
After the home is installed, use the Site Installation Checklist provided by the home manufacturer to verify completion of the ENERGY STAR installation items. Sign the Checklist and the MHRA Quality Assurance (gray) label that is affixed to the home. Mail or fax the completed Checklist to the home manufacturer. If this step is completed by the home manufacturer, request a copy of the Site Installation Checklist. Please contact your manufacturer representative for more information about their Site Installation Checklist.

Step 5. Apply for the Rebate
Fill out a Rebate Application. Attach a copy of the completed Site Installation Checklist and heat pump purchase order for each home included on the application. Mail or fax the application and all required documentation to:
