- IMPORTANT DATES
What are the important
dates for building and selling homes that qualify for the tax credit?
Homes
can be built anytime after August 8, 2005 so long as they are sold to a customer
after January 1, 2006 (IRS will rule on whether the sale may be to the retailer
or to the end customer).
- PLANT CERTIFICATION
How
can my plant get ready to build ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured homes?
To build ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured homes, a plant must
be certified by an approved plant Certifier. Details are available
in ENERGY STAR Labeled Manufactured Homes: Design, Manufacturing,
Installation and Certification Procedures. Download this document
here.
- LABELING
HOMES
What labels must be applied to the homes and where do I get them?
As of November 1, 2005, all ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured
homes must contain an MHRA Quality Assured label and an EPA ENERGY
STAR label. Both of these labels are available from MHRA. Download
this order form here.
- REPORTING
HOMES
Is any reporting required as part of the program?
There
is no longer any requirement to report ENERGY STAR qualified home production to
EPA. Plants must use free web-based software known as the MHRA ENERGY STAR Information
Manager to track production. The Information Manager also may be used to print
ENERGY STAR labels and certificates and Site Installation Checklists.
- PLANT
CERTIFIER
What does an ENERGY STAR plant Certifier do and how do I find
one?
Plants must have a Certifier of record at all times. The Certifier
verifies that plants have the systems in place to consistently
build ENERGY STAR qualified homes. They also conduct ongoing quality
control testing of a sample of homes produced by the plant. A
list of Certifiers is available on the MHRA web site here.
- GETTING
OFF THE INACTIVE PLANT LIST
I've been told that my plant is on the EPA
ENERGY STAR inactive list. What does this mean and how do I become active again?
This
means that your plant has not reported production of any ENERGY STAR qualified
homes for at least 12 months. To be restored to the active list, you must build
and report at least one ENERGY STAR qualified home. It does not mean that your
plant needs to be re-certified. You can still purchase labels and build ENERGY
STAR qualified homes.
- KEEPING CURRENT
Where can I
find the latest information and documents pertaining to the program?
Subscribe to the MHRA ENERGY STAR Update e-newsletter on the MHRA
website (www.mhrahome.org) and visit the ENERGY
STAR for Manufacturers section of the MHRA web site.
- WHOM
TO CONTACT
Who should I contact with questions about the Manufactured
Home ENERGY STAR program?
Please contact MHRA's ENERGY STAR Coordinator, Gwynne
Koch.
